The Walk team has been traveling Highway 40 that runs parallel to I-70. They were kicked off of I-70. Flip said Hwy. 40 is a dangerous road to walk because there is no shoulder and the cars are speeding past. He said they've had some close calls. Please pray for their safety.
They passed through Vandalia yesterday, which was once the capital of Illinois. Interesting facts: Abraham Lincoln assumed the first statewide office of his political career at Vandalia. He began his second term as a legislator in December 1836 in the capitol building that stands today. He studied for a career in law during his time as a legislator, and was enrolled as an attorney before he left Vandalia.
Today, Jim Phillips decided to stop and pass out some pamphlets at the Angel Truck Center in Brownstown. The Truck Center is on I-70, but they could see it from the other highway. Flip said, "Pretty soon Jim comes running out saying, 'Hey they've offered to give everyone a free lunch!!" The team had 2 ½ more miles to walk today, so decided they would walk those miles and then drive back, which they did.
Flip said he's never experienced anything like this truck stop. A "Jesus is Alive" sign decorates a tractor trailer. He said inside there were pictures of Jesus and they play worship music. One sign proclaimed: "For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good." (Psalm 107:9). The free lunch which they give away every day to every trucker who stops in, was truly satisfying and good. There were several choices of meats and vegetables, plus a dessert and drinks. Pastor Tom Harshman and Barbara even offer free showers, and free laundry. All of this was a God-send to our team. Flip was finishing up his laundry as we spoke.
The Harshman's chose this way to reach truckers for Jesus. They belong to the Association of Christian Truckers that have mobile Gospel chapels. They provide all of this through donations. Visit the Angel Truck Center on-line at: http://www.associationofchristiantruckers.org/joinus.html
Jim Phillips is staying at the truck center to preach tonight before joining the team at Effingham. |
