Near Iola, KS, Flip and the Walk Across America crew crossed paths with Bruce, a bicyclist headed west on Hwy. 54, while they were headed east. Bruce told them he had started out in Columbus, OH and was riding his bike all the way to Phoenix, AZ. He said he had been suffering with clinical depression, but he knows Jesus, and he has turned his life and problems over to the Lord. Flip said they spent some time sharing together. When they parted, there were brotherly hugs and tears from Bruce. Flip said,"I think we were a message from God to Bruce that when He sets you free, you are free indeed!"
The team spent Saturday and Sunday in Iola at an Assembly of God church. They were invited to speak at the Sunday morning service.
Flip said what they're hearing so much about right now is methamphetamines and the devastating effect they're having on the youth. He said, "Almost every pastor we've talked to has told us about the meth problem. The drug is cheap and easy to make. It's capturing the minds, hearts and bodies of the kids" he said. "This is not big cities but small Midwest towns we're talking about."
Flip said "Bloodshed touches bloodshed. As we begin to kill His children, God is allowing this drug to bring judgment on a people who have turned their backs on Him."
"Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up, They will bear no Fruit. Even though they bear children, I will slay the precious ones of their womb." (Hosea 9:16)
Flip said, "This is exactly what's happening in America. Not only are kids killing kids in school, but drugs are killing kids. Even cherished offspring (children of Christians) are dying."
While they were in Iola, our team met Amy, who told them she had been involved in a lesbian relationship for 12 years. She said she suffered deep depression during that time. The doctors had tried every kind of drug to bring her out of it. Amy said that five years ago she repented of her sinful lifestyle and invited Christ into her life. She is married now and has two children who love Jesus. The Scripture passage she clung to was 1 Corinthians 6:11. Flip asked Amy to please come and share her testimony with us in Columbus. She promised she would try to come. Please pray that she will be able to.
