When I reached Flip by cell phone today, he and our walk team, with the Jim Zes and Daniel Michael families, were at the Old Courthouse in St. Louis, the same courthouse where Dred Scott sued for his freedom from slavery in 1846. In a 7 to 2 decision that brought America to the brink of Civil War, the Supreme Court declared some eleven years later that, as a slave, Dred Scott wasn't a citizen of this country, that he was not even fully human but was "personal property." In 1973, in another 7 to 2 Supreme Court decision, the same thing happened to unborn children.
Flip said there were several hundred people milling about, sight seeing, eating their sack lunches or just catching some rays in the vicinity of the courthouse. The team used the big sound system and spoke and sang for almost an hour. He said, "I was surprised at the number of people who stopped and listened. It was gratifying to my heart. We dealt with the three most visible manifestations of Satan: homosexuality, abortion and Islam."
He said, "You know, Jesus always unites His enemies and divides His friends. Why else do you think," he asked, "that the NEA encourages teaching Islam but fights with every ounce of strength to keep the name of Jesus from being mentioned?"
He divides His friends. Flip said, "The closer you get to the cross, that becomes the dividing point. That's why when Christ was in Jerusalem, although many were believing in His name, He was not entrusting Himself to them." (John 2:24)
The team visited Planned Parenthood today before coming to the Old Courthouse. They're heading toward Granite City to stay with Daniel and Angela Michael and will be at the Granite City abortion mill tomorrow.
