Walk Across America
May 23 Report
By Brenda Spurlock

Our Walk Across America pilgrims are in McPherson, KS. Flip is still experiencing problems with his cell phone service which accounts for the scarcity of reports. He said the team is averaging walking 15 miles a day. They're staying at an Independent Baptist Church, Wheatland Baptist, whose services they attended today. Pastor Terry Post and all the folks there have been extremely gracious.

Flip said Baptist churches they've visited have consistently been right on the mark with their doctrine. He said, "This includes Independent, Southern, and even American Baptist churches here in the west." Other denominations, though, are floundering. He said he had a conversation with a United Methodist pastor at a church about 20 miles outside McPherson. They discussed abortion which the pastor believed should be legal in some cases. He asked Flip if he believed in capital punishment. Flip told him that of course he believed in it, God called for capital punishment as a way to protect life. The pastor said this makes Flip a hypocrite. Flip asked him why he was more concerned about the lives of the guilty than the lives of the innocent. Flip said, "He seemed to listen to what I said." He said, "I have gotten the sense in speaking with some of these pastors that this is the first time they've heard particular arguments. Even though for all of us they're very familiar." He told the pastor, "You have been born for a time like this when the world is turned upside down with a lie." But the pastor told Flip he was being too judgmental.

Flip said they've been surprised at the number of female pastors in the Midwest in Methodist and Lutheran churches. He said they're always in the smaller churches and he has wondered if the guys get all the larger churches.

Our team will be in Wichita Friday May 28 where Flip says they will confront City Hall at Noon . The city denied Operation Save America a parade permit in the summer of 2001. Subsequently the federal court found OSA's constitutional rights had been violated. Weekend events include a victory rally 7 PM Friday night at Spirit One Christian Center , 1515 East Harry. Rusty's family will be joining them as will John Reyes. Saturday, May 29 the team will be seeking mercy for the babies at Tiller's butchertorium and holding a Memorial Service at 9 AM to remember the Fallen Soldiers and Aborted Babies. Flip pointed out that the city has no problem with the baptism of dead babies that takes place at Tiller's, or with the on-premises incinerator that they use to burn the babies bodies.
