Flip and team are resting today under the huge cross of a beautiful Southern Baptist Church in Enoch, Utah. They had just come from attending church service when I called. Flip said the way they search for a church to spend the night at, is by looking for a cross. When they see one, he said, they know they're "home." It's like a magnet drawing them to it.
The church pastor told them there are few crosses in his state. He told them about a couple he met who were traveling in southwestern Utah to meet up with family members. The instruction they had received was, "Look for the cross." He said they had almost given up hope of ever seeing a cross or finding their meeting place before they finally came upon his church's huge lighted cross. According to the pastor there are no crosses between Enoch and Grand Junction , Colorado where the team is headed. That's 330 miles!
Flip said, "When you have a pastor that puts up a cross in this state, it costs you something, because you will be ostracized by the community. This is Mormon territory and the cross is an offense to Mormons, as it is to other groups including the Muslims, who want to destroy it." He said, "We're remembering the passion of Christ on this Palm Sunday. To you and me that cross means something. '...the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.' 1 Cor. 1:17
