Walk Across America Report
April 19, 2004
By Brenda Spurlock

Flip said Rusty, Liz and seven of the Thomas kids, including baby Torah Grace, enjoyed a great reunion in Grand Junction Sunday.

He said our Walk Across America team attended two different churches, one of them a "crossless" church. "You know the cross is negative, somebody died on it..." he said. "We've been to so many churches and they've all been kind to us," he said, "but some of them are so busy building bridges to the world in order to reach it for Christ, that the gospel has become almost unintelligible. In seeing the church in America , we're seeing there is a problem," he said. "The church is doing nothing to confront the cultural crises of the nation. It's as if we're in this safe little space and we talk about Jesus there. There's an enemy that's savaging our land, but let's not talk about that."

Flip said, "Many of the people in churches are wonderful, but when they see literature like ours that says homosexuality is sin, Islam is a lie, and abortion is murder, they're taken aback." The pastor yesterday had initially told our team they could put out their literature. But the associate pastor was offended by one of the tracts, Sing a Little Louder, <http://www.operationsaveamerica.org/brochures/acrobat/SingALittleLouder.pdf>), and they were asked to remove it. Flip said the sermon was on loving God with all one's heart and loving your neighbor as self. "But," he pointed out, "the church loves with a false love when it enables the sinner to continue in their sin because the church doesn't want to offend anyone! In reading through Judges on our Daily Bible Schedule," he said, "what we are seeing is that God wanted to confront the culture that was in sin and apostasy."

The saints are in the town of De Beque , CO now, 18 miles east of Grand Junction . Population about 4-or-500. They'll spend the night on the parking lot of a church whose young pastor, Flip says, loves Jesus with all his heart. He said an elderly man, the mainstay of the town, had just died. The man gave his heart to Christ three days ago.
