This morning the team left Twentynine Palms http://www.ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us/, a military town. Flip says people have been stopping them on the street to ask for prayer. They've prayed with several Marines. He said, "God just brings them to us. We've prayed for people in the laundromat and everywhere we go."
Flip engaged one soldier coming out of a convenience store, carrying a couple of cases of beer, in conversation. Flip told him he had all the beer he wanted to drink. He said, "I don't want any at all now, but that hasn't always been true." As he began to share Christ with him, the soldier became angry and threatened, "You get away from me you Jesus freak or I'll shoot you!" He simply could not bear the pain/shame of recognition when confronted with his own sin, so he lashed out. They hate him who reproves in the gate, And they abhor him who speaks with integrity. Amos 5:10.
Our team has done several radio interviews. Flip was asked if what they are doing is a publicity stunt. There was a smile behind his words when he replied. "You might want to think about that a little bit," he said. "Here we are far from any large cities.....there's no media crews following us.....we're walking through mile after mile of desert..."
"What we are doing," he said, "is issuing a proclamation that our nation must turn back to God or be destroyed. God has already spoken in remedial judgment. Yes, Christ will bring judgment when He returns, but we are experiencing judgment now, judgment that can be followed by mercy. The Lord said, 'If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.' " 2Chronicles 7:13 -14.
