Hi Flip,
Encouraged by your letter about Jim Pouillon, here's a brief synopsis of what happened today, Nov. 24th,2009.....
A light, chilly mist swirled over the street lights shining in the darkness at the entrance to the high school property. At 6:45 am, my four faithful pro-life friends, my 15 yr. old son, and I spread out down the sidewalk with our giant posters and graphic pictures. My guess was that most of these high schoolers and their parents who would be shortly driving by on the way to the school would have never seen pictures like these before. As the early light started to dawn, the buses started coming....one after another after another. The stop sign at the intersection and all the snarled traffic made sure everyone got a good look at the signs as the cars and buses crawled past. This went on for a good 45 min. I wondered,as I looked at my son unashamedly holding his sign for the first time in front of his high school, what price will he pay for being here this morning? But I also felt so pleased that he said 'yes' when I had asked if he wanted to come with me. He was ready to reach out to his generation.
It's always amazing to me how much of a stir can be made with a few pictures! Two administrators tried to intimidate us into leaving even though we were on public sidewalks. A patrol car came, the officers talked to one of our friends, but never asked us to leave. Boy, was that one asst. principal mad! Very unprofessional. But the other one rebuked me with, 'this is just unacceptable!' I pointed at my poster and said, "You're right--this IS totally unacceptable". More frustrated, he said (implying we shouldn't be there),"These are children!!" I said, pointing again to my poster's torn-apart little body, "You're right again--these are CHILDREN!!" I reminded him that until the school started teaching the truth about abortion on the inside, that it would be necessary for us to teach the truth on the outside.
Of course, there's no way of knowing all the good that came out of our small witness this morning. I pray that future lives of both children and teenage mothers will be spared because somebody remembers that we were there with 'those awful pictures'. But I know that many were exposed to the reality of abortion for the first time, my son's friends are talking about the stand that he took this morning, and that will force them to discuss and think about their own beliefs. Not bad for 45 minutes!
May God bless all who read this and feel moved to go share the truth at their local high schools. Don't let fear stop you. Just DO IT!!
Your sister in the Lord Jesus,
Elaine Schmidt
