Rev. Flip Benham 6/27/2008
Dear Nancy,
Thanks for the hand wringing, but most especially thank you for your prayers. Dave Lackey and I met in Atlanta on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2008, in search of a place to hold our evening rallies for the National Event. A wonderful friend of OSA, Kathy Pavkovich (yes, the same mother who stood up in the US Senate and prayed in Jesus’ Name when Hindu Clergyman Rajan Zed was invited by Senator Harry Reid to open up the Senate in prayer to the pantheon of false Hindu gods) called several churches within a five mile radius of our hotel.
As you were all praying, unfortunately I was doing more worrying than praying, God was gently leading Kathy to just the right place. After being turned down by the John Wesley United Methodist Church on Jimmy Carter Boulevard, she called the Landmark Church at 3737 Holcomb Rd. in Norcross, Georgia. It is four and one half miles from our hotel. It is a beautiful Church building (not too big – not too small). It is perfect.
Kathy spoke with a precious saint, Alison Lusted, who has been with Landmark Church for 23 years. She is a Praise and Worship leader, a missionary, a teacher, and flat out in love with King Jesus. When she told Kathy how much the rental of the church would be per day and Kathy relayed that figure to me, I almost fell over. Kathy, nevertheless, set us up with a meeting with Miss Alison the very next day.
Dave and I met with Jenny Hodges (she has been a tremendous help in preparing the way for Atlanta) at the Cracker Barrel in Norcross, Georgia, at 6:30 AM. Cracker Barrel is located right next to our hotel for the National Event. We thanked the Lord for traveling mercies and asked for His wisdom and guidance to find a home for our evening rallies. Your prayers at work!
We met Alison at 8:30 AM and as soon as we viewed the church sanctuary we felt like it was too good to be true. Dave was the first one to note that it was exactly the right size. When we began talking with Alison about our ministry and what we do at our rallies and what we do out in the streets, she immediately understood. There was no need for grand explanations. She knew the answer and the answer was and is Jesus. It was then that Alison began to put things together so that we could afford to use the facilities. There was no prodding from us, just God orchestrating through Miss Alison a way for us to use this beautiful church building to conduct our evening rallies.
I am overwhelmed by the grace and mercy of God to provide for us. The Scripture is true, God does indeed have friends in every city. We have found a true friend of God in Atlanta. There are many more there and it is our prayer that we will be as much an encouragement to them as they have already been to us.
In Christian love,
Flip
