Rescue Rochester June 2005 Update Mike Warren & Jerry Crawford Psalms 68:3-6, "But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation." Another Abortion Mill Closes These past few weeks we have received very encouraging news at some of the most opportune times. My brother Alan pastors a Christian Missionary Alliance church with a Chinese American congregation on Long Island and recently he invited me to visit and preach the Sunday morning services. That Monday, as a day off treat, we decided to see the new Star Wars movie. It was on the way to the show that I received news on my cell phone that the abortion clinic in Highland Hospital was closing down! Improprieties were the given reason! I guess the impropriety of killing defenseless children finally caught up with them. Highland has become Rescue Rochester's home base for activity over these past few years. We began to regularly picket and pray there after the Genesee Hospital and its two clinics closed about four years ago. In the spring of 1988, at The Highland Hospital's 5th floor abortion clinic, about fifty Christians from seven or eight different churches were arrested at the beginning of rescue events in Rochester . A short walk from Highland there is a memorial marker to abolitionist leader and former slave Fredrick Douglass. His statute is about 15 feet tall and faces due north, pointing to The North Star, the beacon of freedom that every fugitive slave would follow while making his or her way from the bondage of the Southern States. Fred, as I affectionately call him, even named his abolitionist newspaper by the same name, “The North Star.” Mr. Douglass, a self-educated former slave, became a passionate advocate for the liberty of his brothers and sisters still in bondage. He labored for their freedom even at the threatened loss of his liberty and life through passionate oratory in abolitionist meetings and worked as a facilitator and conductor of the Underground Railroad. His passionate rhetoric helped light the fires of freedom in America . In a famous speech in Rochester he exposed the hypocrisy of our own Declaration of Independence being read during July 4th celebrations while millions of slaves lived in the bondage of the Southern states. My favorite Douglass quote is, “One with God is a majority.” The news of this abortion mill closing is a witness to the fact that the battle is God's and not our own. We have a great Captain who stands with us in this fight. Be encouraged fellow warriors! Baby Saved Just about 2 weeks later I received a call from Mary Jost a sidewalk counselor who frequents Planned Parenthood in Rochester . She stated that a young mom who was holding an infant began to speak with their team on the sidewalk. This mom stated that she was scheduled to have an abortion at Morris Wortman's clinic and was persuaded to change her mind by a man who was holding a sign and speaking to her from the sidewalk. She showed her baby that was destined to be aborted, instead, alive in her mother's arms! This occurred sometime in the Fall of 2004. We believe that this was on one of the days that Rescue Rochester was present at Mr. Wortman's abortion clinic! And if you do the math it may just about coincide with the candlelight prayer vigil that Rescue Rochester held at that clinic back in the fall of 2004! Blessing to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who does all things well. Victory is seen as we just continue to make ourselves available as vessels that He can use to pour out His truth and love to a lost and hurting world. Mom Chooses Life Terry and Jerry Crawford met a desperate mom after service at their home church, befriended her, and helped her choose life for the baby she was carrying. The saints at Bethel Christian Fellowship stepped in to provide some needed practical help for this single mom. Now, Terry writes, mom and new baby are trophies of the grace of a redeeming loving God! She writes, “This mom's beautiful baby girl was born today, Tuesday, June 7, at 2:18 p.m. at Highland Hospital. She weighed in at 10 lbs 3 ozs! She is 21 3/4" long. She is truly a miracle in more ways than one. It is an honor and a pleasure to know this mother and her three little girls. Big sisters ages 6 and 1 1/2 are excited and proud. Keep this special family in your prayers. Much love and praises to God!” Both Mom and daughters are doing well. |
