June 23, 2001 The Young People Stand Boldly for King Jesus and Unborn Children After a wonderful week of teaching from the Word of God, nightly rallies worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ and hearing anointed preaching by Pastors Rusty Thomas and Flip Benham, 35 young people took King Jesus to the gates of hell on June 22 & 23. After an upside-down culture arrested Rusty Thomas for praying to the side of Mr. Tiller's killing center and protected the serial murderer inside, KSNW Channel 3 News sent out a reporter and camera. Their 10 PM newscast Friday night, July 22, 2001 will forever be etched in my memory. The tone of the story was a hit piece on OSA and the teenagers joining the battle over who is Lord; Jesus Christ, or whatever man thinks or lusts for. But our sovereign God caused it to backfire on them big time. Crystal Wemmer, 16 gave the most awesome Christian pro-life witness I think I've ever seen make it past the cutting room floor on the TV news. The Channel 3 reporter set the premise (she thought) by interviewing NOW activist Diane Wato. Ms. Wato tried to paint the public sidewalks outside Tiller's as a dangerous place for "little children." She inferred that OSA leaders were manipulating children, that she all but accused us of child abuse. These are more mature young people with their own mind and will. All were of the age MS Wato argues ought to be free to make their own sexual choices including killing their babies free from parental controls or counsel. Call on the Lord Jesus and get saved, Diane. Putting on her phony "concern for the children" act, Ms. Wato pointed to the driveway where she said "one little girl almost got her foot run over by the rear wheel of car if she hadn't fortunately moved her foot when she did." The reporter never investigated which "child" this was. This "young child" just happened to be 19-year old Karen Myers. Karen has been coming to Tiller's mill ever since she can remember with her family. The past 2 years, Karen has become a veteran sidewalk counselor providing reproductive health care to mothers in crisis by way of referring them to crisis pregnancy clinics. The newscast then showed footage of young people worshipping and praying with tears of compassion on their faces. When the reporter interviewed 16-year old Crystal Wemmer off-camera if the "danger" described by MS Wato (that doesn't exist except at the hands of Mr. Tiller's escorts) concerned her, Crystal Wemmer replied, "Yes it concerns me but I'm willing to suffer or sacrifice my life for another person (pointing inside Mr. Tiller's killing center) that could grow up to be my child's friend, or companion..." Before they did edit her answer. I spoke with Crystal where she works and she gave the rest of her sentence: "Or a President that could save our future." The sincere boldness and love of Christ exuding from her as she spoke was so powerful the editors couldn't avoid leaving it the story uncut. Praise be to King Jesus! The story then shifted to film footage taken at that Friday night's worship rally where Crystal was leading upbeat worship along with the rest of the "Ground Zero" praise band. Ground Zero: The Point of No Return is the name of Word of Life Teen Church, an outreach of Word of Life Ministries in Wichita. Since the KSNW camera crew ere filming from the side of the stage, the entire band plus the transparency screen with the words to the song were clearly visible. I didn't need to read the words as I could hear Crystal and those in the church singing, "Look what the Lord has done!" There is nothing ambiguous about what God these young people serve as the upbeat words all made it on the news piece. "Look what the Lord has
done! Oh I'm going to praise
His name! Anyone with at least one good eye could clearly see that these gentle warriors worshipping King Jesus were not little children (as Ms. Wato and the reporter inferred). These young people are standing boldly for the Lord Jesus Christ. This takes both courage and total reliance on the Holy Spirit and Word of God these days. A few hours with them shows their commitment. They are Christians with a work to do, a Will to obey, a destiny to fulfill, a battle to fight, a generation to rescue, a nation to save, and a world to win for King Jesus. Neither Rusty nor Flip knew about this TV news piece until this week. All of our hearts are warmed greatly with this powerful testimony of the next generation. May the Lord Jesus establish them and give them their generation for Him! Now the meaning of what Flip Benham told the AP reporter carries more spiritual meaning when he told them, "You have displayed more courage today than most of the pastors in Wichita." (June 23, 2001) As an elder and pastor in Wichita, I challenge the men of God who are more able than I to stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ at the gates of hell: Mr. Tiller's killing center where more than 85 unborn baby boys and girls are sacrificed each week. It is our duty to be examples and equip the next generation. Rise up O men of God! Look what the Lord has done! Stephen Mashburn
