Heartland Heartbeat, Sptember 4

By Karen Myers

Last Friday evening, just as Pastor Daniel Thompson was closing the rally in prayer, policemen came up to him and told him to turn off the mike. A surprised crowd watched as the sergeant and two officers in black t-shirts took Daniel aside—they asked him to show his identification. Then, when the policemen and policewomen finally acknowledged that Pastor Daniel was not doing anything illegal, they proceeded to threaten members of the Word of Life worship team with arrest. The teenage girls from the worship team began crying because they were told that they would be given a citation. It was obvious that the police were intent on writing citations.

When Donna Lippoldt approached and asked to see the ordinance regarding amplified sound, she and Lieutenant Morris discussed it. Lieutenant Morris said she would not get into a debate--that if we wanted to take it to court that was fine. When Donna asked someone to get her Deputy Chief Cole’s cell number the police officers decided to talk. After discussing it among themselves Lieutenant Morris came and told Donna that she (Lt Morris) was wrong and that Donna was right. (A lot of good that did for interrupting the anointed prayer of Pastor Daniel’s). The police stopped writing the citations and told the young women they were free to go, but continued to take Richard Jacobson’s information (Richard is our trumpet player). They wrote him a citation for disorderly conduct, and then, because he lives in Germany (and has no permanent USA address) they put hand-cuffs on him and took him to jail. Donna and Bob went to the jail to bond him out and had to pay $1000.

~~Prayer and Praise~~

Last Tuesday, August 28, at Tiller’s we were thrilled to see two babies that had been saved from abortion. The adoptive mother travelled a great distance just to show us these six-month old twins. They were so PRECIOUS! These little children reminded us that all the sacrifice is 100 percent worthwhile!

My own pastor came out to Tiller’s to pray with his wife last Tuesday morning for the very first time! I wept after he called me (on Monday afternoon) to say that he would be coming out—it was a definite answer to years of prayer! Please pray for him and for all the other pastors around the Wichita area. Pray that God will continue work in them and break their hearts for the baby boys and girls being slaughtered day after day. And pray that we, their parishoners, will not belittle them or make light of their other aspects of ministry, while at the same time pleading with them never to forget the “least of these.”

On Tuesday evening, sixteen of us read the Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy) over Wichita Family Planning, the abortuary on east Central. It was so good to drink the water of God’s Word for two-and-a-half hours! Even Rex, the escort, came by and listened to the Bible proclamation—and we know that His Word never returns void.

Men of God are still hearing His call. On Wednesday, August 29, five men from Raytheon showed up for the first time to pray at Central. Please, God, send us more of Your men, Your warriors!

~~Just a Note~~

During the next several weeks we will continue to read many passages from the Bible on different topics. How each of us respond to God’s Word is between us and Jesus...

...and the price is His blood that He shed on the cross.

To “rescue” or not to “rescue” is a big issue among Christians today. Rescue is defined in everything we do in front of abortion mills. Sidewalk counseling, truth teams, intercession, proclaiming God’s Word, praise, and worship are all defined as rescue. What does God say about this?

“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, ‘Behold, we knew it not;’ doth not He that pondereth the heart consider it? And He that keepeth thy soul, doth not He know it? And shall He not render to every man according to his words?” --Proverbs 24:11-12

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow in his steps. Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree…by His stripes ye were healed.” --1 Peter 2:21, 24

Do we believe the One who gave His life for us?

~~Scripture for the Week~~

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of theses least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” --Matthew 5:18-19

~~Quote of the Week~~

“The Bible is the only infallible rule of faith and practice….Get back to the truth of God’s plan. We’re like the Israelites of old who lost God’s word.” --Rev. Peter Marshall
