Walk Across America June 21 Report

Walk Across America
June 21, 2004 report

By Brenda Spurlock

Yesterday our team stayed for early morning service and Sunday School at the Christian church where they had stayed over night, then went to services at a large Southern Baptist Church, Concord Baptist, pastored by Dr. Monte Shinkle. You may visit this Jefferson City church on-line and even download sermons by the pastor at: http://www.takeheart.org/. They returned last night and were graciously allowed to speak about their mission.

Among congregation members who heard them was Bob Baysinger, managing editor of Pathway, the official publication of the Missouri Baptist Convention. He was interested in what they said, so he spent time with them today and wrote a story about them. We expect it to be posted online on the Fourth of July. To check out an interesting editorial about gay marriage at Pathway, click on http://www.mbcpathway.com/Editorial1.htm. These are definitely people who understand us and with whom we can agree.

God prepared the way for the faithful today. They walked to the capitol building in Jefferson City which Flip described as one of the largest capitol buildings in the country. No other building in the city is allowed to be taller. He said it was very rainy which made walking up to the capitol difficult, but as soon as they arrived the weather cleared. The Lord had even saved them a parking place right in front of the building where they could park the RV with the big speakers going full out.

They were allowed to give a complete presentation with no problem. Everyone, including the police, were friendly and welcoming. As it turns out, another organization was supposed to parade today, but they didn't show up because of the rain. Flip said, "God just keeps opening doors." He said, "We talk to people everywhere we go. So many people are agreeing with what we're saying."

"Commit your ways to the Lord, and your plans will be established." Proverbs 16:3
