The Inextricable Connection - Why Complacency Must End

The article below is one of my periodical columns written for Godarchy Productions, a loose fellowship of Believers dedicated to seeing our community and nation returned to moral sanity by being restored to a right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. In His sovereignty God provided an illustration of America's pitiful spiritual condition through the experience of the WAA Team as they entered Hutchison, KS on Tuesday, May 25. It is no coincidence that a local church's biblical response to a 3-month old baby murdered and the cool reception Jesus and our "Walk" team received in Hutchison is preceeding the Memorial Day weekend events with OSA-Wichita. The battle looms ahead therefore both the announcement and "Walk" report are included in this article. Please join us in ending the plague of complacency by once again wielding the sword of the Spirit in the gates of the land! - Pastor Steve Mashburn

The Inextricable Connection and Why Our Complacency Must End

"In most parts of the Bible, everything is implicitly or explicitly introduced with "Thus saith the Lord". It is... not merely a sacred book but a book so remorselessly and continuously sacred that it does not invite -- it excludes or repels -- the merely aesthetic approach. You can read it as literature only by a tour de force... It demands incessantly to be taken on its own terms: it will not continue to give literary delight very long, except to those who go to it for something quite different. I predict that it will in the future be read, as it always has been read, almost exclusively by Christians."
C.S. Lewis, They Asked for a Prayer

Greetings on the Wednesday Godarchy Line! First of all please pray for my good friend and brother that helps me with this Line (the voicmail audio version). On Sunday night his mother passed on to be with our Lord Jesus. Everyone is born with a mother and there is no bond quite like that bond which exists between a child and his mother no matter how old we are. It is this unique bond that God uses to describe His faithfulness and love toward us when He spoke through the prophet Isaiah saying: "Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I'd never forget you--never." Isaiah 49:15 - The Message

Sadly we see millions of women around the world walking away from their children after paying to have them murdered but these do not forget. The murder of a child by abortion leaves a woman scarred in her heart for life. No matter how much an abortive mother tries to fill her life with other things to divert her attention, she will always remember that she once carried a living human being in her womb and chose to take that life. Forgiveness is found only after repentance and through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord will even bring healing to the emotions and memories but sin of any kind leaves its mark on us which is why God so strongly condemns it in His Word, even to the point of taking the judgment for sin upon Himself on the cross.

It is by design that Satan chooses to focus on ripping this bond apart between mothers and children. This is the closest bond of love we have to the love the Lord Jesus has toward us and the enemy seeks to destroy it. The Scriptures show us a common thread from beginning to end of the battle between two seeds, the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. It was the Seed of the woman (Jesus) that God first prophesied would crush the serpent’s head. Genesis 3:15

Yet many Christians come to Jesus without being taught that they are enlisting in an ongoing war. The other half of the prophesy declares that enmity (literally hatred) would exist between the two seeds – spiritual descendents of both. The seed of the serpent will always hate the children of God though the seed of the woman bears a deep love for them desiring their good. Ever since that day a state of war has existed between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. It began quickly with Cain murdering his brother Abel "because his deeds were righteous" (1 John 3:12). King Jesus crushed the head of Satan before He ever went to the cross by. (John 12:31, 16:33) The death and resurrection of Jesus from the dead sealed the victory and made payment in full for the sin of the world.

Now the battle between the two seeds continues with the seed of the serpent (children of the Devil, Matthew 13:36-43; John 8:39-47) persecuting the seed of the woman (those who belong to Christ, Galatians 3:16, 26-29; Revelation 12:17) The enemy’s hatred is not limited to Believers but is directed at all mankind for we are created in God’s image. This warfare to the death is manifest most clearly through abortion, a tool the Devil and his servants have employed for centuries.

Bloodshed touches bloodshed…

"Hear the word of the Lord, O people of Israel ; for the Lord has an indictment against the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty, and no knowledge of God in the land. Swearing, lying, and murder, and stealing and adultery break out; bloodshed follows bloodshed. Therefore the land mourns, and all who live in it languish; together with the wild animals and the birds of the air, even the fish of the sea are perishing. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children." Hosea 4:1-3, 6

Sin or violence of any kind will plant a harvest of death just as sowing righteousness will reap a harvest of life. God’s established law of sowing and reaping has several aspects. First, the seed always produces after its own kind and second, the seed sown will result in much more when it runs its course of growth (just as a grain of corn planted produces a stalk of corn with many ears, each bearing several hundred kernels of corn). It is for this reason that we all are affected by the type of seed sown in and around us.

Last weekend in Wichita a very large funeral was held for a 3-month old baby that was brutally beaten to death. Some of the members where I attend church and serve are related to this family. Our Sunday morning service was one of testimonies and several words from the Lord. The Holy Spirit has opened the hearts of many with a couple of saints testifying to the connection between murder in the womb by abortion and the violence and murder we see in the streets. The connection between the violence of abortion and the violence done to the family by abuse, be it by individuals or the State, was also testified to. The message last Sunday also addressed the increase of violence, child abuse, perversion and the tyranny of the State (SRS) and connected it to the failure of Church to maintain its presence in all the gates of authority.

We are under God’s remedial judgments right now in America. A list of just 29 such judgments with Scripture references may be found in the article, "Will God Judge America?" on the Operation Rescue / Operation Save America web site. This is a sobering truth that must be proclaimed for judgment begins at the house of God. Unfortunately, many churches are too busy trying to please the world and worldly Christians to address this fact or even worse – denying the truth that God will even judge a man or woman now let alone nations.

This absurd notion that God "does not judge people or nations now" is so easily refuted by the simplicity of the gospel. In order to make it possible for us to be saved God first carried out the most horrendous judgment imaginable on His only Son, Jesus the Messiah, on the cross. Jesus Himself pronounced judgment against four cities, Chorazin, Bethsaida , Capernaum and Jerusalem. The first three cities were condemned because they did not believe Jesus’ preaching (Matthew 11:20-24) and Jerusalem for failing to recognize her day of visitation. All four cities were wiped out starting with Jerusalem in 70 AD followed by the others by the 4th Century just as Jesus had declared.

"But Jesus turning to them said, ‘Daughters of Jerusalem , stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.’" Luke 23:38 (see verses 26-38)

"For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation." Luke 19:32-44

I was encouraged to see Christians who up till now have not been involved in taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the streets or the abortion mills arrive at the truth that murder in the womb and murder in our streets, businesses and homes are inextricably linked together and must be actively addressed. Realization of the sin of complacency is the first step toward repentance. Only through the repentance of the Church and our nation can we ever hope for God to show mercy and once again bless America. Absent a mighty move of mercy upon a repentant nation America will soon cease to be the beautiful bastion of freedom she once was, if even a nation.

It is when Christians step out of the saltshaker that the wicked (seed of the serpent) come unglued. When the Name of Jesus is mentioned in public, all hell breaks lose among the wicked. Of course this is also when all heaven breaks out as well! This is nothing new except in our historical setting of modern America. The Apostles and the disciples in the early Church saw this as normal and so should we. The Name of Jesus is the only name by which we can and must be saved (Acts 4:12). For this cause it is a matter of life and death that we repent of our silence and proclaim the whole truth of God’s judgment and His salvation everywhere we go.

On March 1, 2004 Flip Benham, Rusty Thomas and a team of 8 others began a historic mission – to walk across America calling the Church and the nation to repentance. Historically when words have failed God has used living parables to reach the people. This "Walk Across America" is beyond the mind of man to invent. It involves a procession of a child carrying an aborted baby, a horse named Judgment followed by a donkey named Mercy and a broken set of the Ten Commandments. The symbolism is important. When a king entered a city on a donkey it meant that he came in peace. When a king entered a city on a horse he came to make war. Jesus entered Jerusalem in 33 AD on a donkey in peace offering mercy but when He returns as King of kings and Lord of lords, it will be to make war with all who are not His disciples. There will be no mercy or repentance on that "great and terrible day".

The sight of this living parable has drawn many, especially children at every stop along the 1500+ miles they have walked to date. Yet the teachers at government schools have told them to "stop saying the Name of Jesus" and calling police. In Hays, KS the police finally ran them out of town for preaching Jesus and refusing to stop using that blessed Name. Yesterday in Hutchison, KS the teachers and local police violated their rights and gave them a similar reception. I will submit a report from Hutchison written by Brenda Spurlock through speaking with Flip by cell phone below but first you need to hear the announcement of the WAA team’s visit to Wichita this weekend.

Judgment comes to Wichita

Friday, May 28 the City of Wichita will be confronted at 12 Noon in front of City Hall in downtown Wichita .

Friday night there will be a victory celebration rally, 7 PM at Spirit One Christian Center, 1515 East Harry

Saturday, May 29, 9 AM at Tiller’s abortion mill on Kellogg & Bleckley Streets there will be a Memorial Service to remember the Fallen Soldiers and Aborted Babies, complete with Honor Guard, Bag Pipes, Trumpet playing Taps and a message from Pastor Flip Benham.

Come out and encourage these men on their historic way across America!

What occurred in Hutchison Tuesday when the OSA "Walk" team began to proclaim Jesus illustrates further what our complacency in the Church has resulted in. Communities mourn when bloodshed touches bloodshed yet recoil in shock when the only answer - Jesus - is presented. God have mercy on us!

Walk Across America
May 25, 2004 report
By Brenda Spurlock

Our team is in Hutchinson, KS, 50 miles outside of Wichita. Flip said that earlier today Mercy spooked and almost threw Rusty in front of a car. She took off running with Rusty chasing her. He said she runs off like that once in a while for reasons known only to her.

Their experiences in Hutchinson today must have given them all a deja'vu feeling. They walked through town, their loud speakers playing Christian music. As they neared the end of the main street, they saw kids playing in a park, having an end of the school year picnic. As always, the kids were attracted to Mercy and Judgment which opened the way for Flip to tell them about the broken Ten Commandments, the broken baby and Jesus. Well, that is, he managed to get the name of Jesus out o-n-c-e before the teachers went ballistic (this is the deja'vu part). Teachers said, "You can't say that name around here! We have separation of church and state!"

The police showed up (more deja'vu).
One of them said, "We hear that you're harassing these kids."
Flip responded, "We're doing no such thing. We're presenting the gospel of Christ."
Policeman: "You can't do that here."
Flip: "This is a public park we have a responsibility and duty to tell them."
Policeman: "The teachers are their guardians and they don't want you
talking about that."
Flip: "This is a public park. What about our First Amendment rights?"

Flip said, "The thought came to me that if we were homosexuals and brought an AIDS quilt to the park, the teachers would have had all the kids down there to listen to our story. Then, they probably would have taken up a collection for AIDS. Or if I'd been a Buddhist, the teachers would have been encouraging the kids to ask me questions and learn about my beliefs. But," he said, "It’s this Jesus thing that gets everyone so upset."

Policeman: "Let me see your ID."
Flip: "I don't carry it when I'm walking with the horse."
Policeman: "You know that you can't have a horse in the park, don't you?"
Flip: "No, I don't know you can't have a horse in the park. What ordinance says that?"
Policeman: "This is a horse at large."
Flip: "It's not at large, I'm holding the reins."
Policeman: "I'm trying to be nice. I just want you to leave."
Flip: "You don't understand we want to tell the kids about Jesus."
Policeman: "If you won't leave I'll have to arrest you." (He handcuffs
Flip.)

The police talk about arresting Rusty also. They threaten our kids, telling them that if their dads go to jail, they'll be sent to "juvey." Police show the animal ordinance to Flip; only it says if the animal is menacing the public it won't be allowed to remain in the park. Flip tells me, "This isn't about the animals; it's about the name of Jesus." Finally, the police tell Flip and Rusty, "If you leave town we'll free you. They don't make any promises but police let them go anyway.

Flip said, "It's when we come in the name of Jesus that we get in trouble. From the west coast to here that's what we've found."

They're staying at an Assembly of God church tonight. Flip said the pastor's wife and another saint brought them in and prayed over them referencing Ezekiel 37 and the dry bones. She told them that even though they speak to a people who are spiritually dead they must trust God for a spiritual revival.

May we all see the absolute necessity of taking King Jesus to the gates and never again allow complacency or the fear of others to drive us back inside the walls of irrelevancy. The Word of God is relevant all we think, do or say. There is a time and place for everything - it is time for Jesus.

"And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness, while You stretch out Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus." Acts 4:29-30
